As we near the end of this year, there’s one thing we can probably agree on—2020 has been pretty frightening. But while many of us have steered clear of movie theaters due to the real-life horrors of living through a pandemic, we’ve been missing out on some genuinely great films. If you’re finding yourself more drawn to scary movies than ever before, you probably want to know what should be on your radar. To help you out, here’s a list of the best horror films of 2020, according to critics.

Review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes keeps an updated list of the best reviewed horror films of the year. Keep in mind these movies are ranked by an algorithm that weights some critics above others, which is why they’re not just ordered by score. All of them, however, got enough positive feedback to merit a watch. Some of these movies did get a theatrical release, others went straight to streaming, and many can be screened from the comfort of your home right now. Just make sure you leave the lights on.

Read on to find out which scary movies you need to catch up on—and to see if any of your recent favorites made the cut. And for more horror films worth checking out, revisit The Scariest Movie That Came Out the Year You Graduated.
